October 29, 1929, is when it started(black tuesday)

and it lasted through the 1930's into the early 1940's until World War 2 brought the chance for companies to supply jobs to workers in order to create weapons. this boosted the economy and ended the depression.

The beginning of the Great Depression can be traced to a single day but not so the end.  The economy was recovering when WWII broke out and many Americans went to work making the war production that was shipped to England as part of the Lend-Lease program.  After the U.S. entered the war and war production was in full swing there were plenty of jobs to be had especially with so many men leaving the country to go fight.
