  1. she was tired of playing

  2. I *believe* she retired May 14, and she was burned out

  3. Henin retired in mid-May, and it was a very quick and surprising decision.  She felt that she achieved what she did and simply didn't want to play anymore as her fire wasn't the same.  The talent and ability was always there as usual, but her desire wasn't.  It's too bad because her chances of winning the French Open and US Open again were huge, and this year was her best chance of winning Wimbledon.  Henin made history by retiring while she was No.1.

  4. She retired because she felt "she did not need this anymore".

She felt that she has achieved whatever there is to achieve. She doesnt belive that she was meant to win Wimbledon. It was fate. Winning more French Opens was not going to make her any happier. So she hung her racket up.

  5. She retired a few weeks before the French Open. I think she said how she wasn't interested in playing and since she already had enough money, she could quit.

  6. She retired a couple of days after her loss to Dinara Safina in Berlin, which was also a couple of weeks before the French. Justine just felt burned out of playing tennis and she got tired of coming up with ways to counteract powerhouses like Serena, Sharapova, and Safina. She felt like she had done everything in her life that she could have accomplished. When asked about winning another grand slam, she responded that she didn't need that glory anymore.

She has had a very rough life because she lost her mother at a very early age and she had a divorce over a year ago. It was a tough decision to make but she says that she is happy that she isn't playing tennis and doesn't plan to make a comeback ever.
