  1. Actually, it was the super 4, then super 6 (sanctions against South Africa Ended) then super 10, then super 12, then Super 14.

    Why? one word. MONEY!

  2. First there was Super 10 (1993)

    Then Super 12 (1996)

Super 14 started in the 2006 season...............

  3. G'day,

    Thank you for your question.

The Super 14 started in 1996 as Super 12 following an agreement between the Australian, New Zealand and South African Rugby Unions. It was developed as part of the introduction of professional rugby which was introduced as a result of the introduction of pay television to Australia and the threat of losing players to the Super League war in rugby league. The Super 14 started last year as Australia and South Africa wanted an additional team in the competition.

I have attached sources for your reference.

    Regards
