  1. As a compulsory gymnastics coach (compulsory being the first levels you compete 4-6) It's really hard to determin before you've even tried it.  Most dancers that come to gymnastics are very good at floor and learn beam pretty quickly.  They usually struggle greatly on bars.  Even if they are very strong, dance simply does not use your muscles in the same way gymnastics does.  Of all the dancers that have come to gymnastics at our gym, 2 were able to train for about 6 months and get on team.  These 2 girls were dancing in international competitions.  They were not just talented, they were absolutely untouchable in their ability.

Also, it depends on which team you compete for.  Our gym has a standard of needing to score at least a 7 in the in-gym competition.  Some gyms will let girls who can only score a 5.6 compete.

I really hope that you can have fun no matter what level you do but be patient and trust that your coaches will know exactly where you belong and give yourself time to progress

  2. Well as an ex dancer(just recreational and did recreational gymnastics too) and competitive gymnast i know that it takes different muscles to do either. the dance parts will come easily but you will have to work for the skills.(bar vault tumbling)

  3. I think that it definatly depends on the gym that you go to!

First of all you can start competing in level four but you have to be able to do all the events! Vault, bars, beam, and floor.

Some skills that are required in Arizona for leve four are round off back handspring, dive roll, back hip circle on bars mil circle. cartwheel on beam handstand on beam.

That is just a few things! Dancers are usually good on floor and beam, but have a hard time with the other events because they are completly different from what dancers are use to!

What level are you starting in??
