  1. yeah the cargo hold is pressurised and if required we switch on the heater.

  2. Yes, pets have the same pressurization and climate control as passengers.

It's still not a very nice thing to do to your beloved critter.  As a crew member, I used to really feel sorry for the pets in the cargo hold.  It's a major unhappy for them, and bad for their health.

If you have a lap-size pet, and you can make arrangements to carry him/her with you in the cabin, please do so.  Otherwise it's best to leave your pet at home.

All this is very much more true if you are traveling overseas.  Don't try to ship a pet across an international boundary, especially to East Asia where dogs are bred for food.  They just don't understand how we feel about our pets, and there are too many stories of dogs "disappearing" from the airport in Bangkok, Seoul, and Beijing.

So the answer is, "Yes, the airplane will provide safe air pressure."  But it still is not a good idea.

By the way, what is "high app. pressure?"

  3. Yes the cargo hold are pressurized but if I am correct they are only heated if they have items that can not be frozen including animals

  4. Yes, they would all die before coming back to earth if they wheren't. the Cargo compartment that generally houses animals is also Heated so that they don't freeze to death at the Minus 30 degree Celsius Temperature.

  5. They are given the save press as passager. Fact the is part baggage compartment is part of the passager compartment. Otherwise the could not carry your's pet's.

  6. Yes, the cargo are also pressurized . The airflow of the aircraft goes from the cabin to the cargos then outside. There is also extra heaters in the cargo to keep the floors warm.

  7. what is app.?

  8. The cargo hold is pressurized like the cabin. Uh, hmm, however, if the crew needs to save pressurization for the cabin by letting the cargo hold go, we do have what we call the "dead dog" switch. Sorry Fido but we get paid to make tough choices sometimes.

A baggage handler brings a kennel with a dead doberman in it to the ramp supervisor.

"We killed a dog on flight 101", he reports.

Boss  says, "Ah it's just a doberman. They all look alike. Go down to the pound and get another one just like it."

Dutifully the baggage handler complies. Later the dog owner walks up to the ramp supervisor.

"That's not my dog", he complains.

"Of course that's your dog. Just take it and get it out of here."

"No you don't understand" the owner insists.

"Alright mister, just what is it I don't understand, dobermans are all alike how can you tell one dog from the other?" asks the supervisor.

After a moment the owner replies, "My dog's dead."

  9. The answer is yes. These days they have more comfort than people.

  10. Of course they are. The cargo area is pressurized but it is very very cold down there.
