  1. That is a great question.  We bought a house about 11 months ago and installed cable.  The house already had an antenna on it (I guess as a back up or something) and just two weeks ago my husband took it down because we didn't use it.  We stored it in out "dump pile" in the back yard, just not knowing what to do with it. I would love to have it recycled.  Do they charge to take it away?

  2. Most are made out of Aluminum, so they can be sold to a recycler.

  3. the antennas are still required for using the converter box you will recieve more channels with the antenna

  4. i am sure there will be some aspiring new artist out there that will collect as many as possible to make a sign of the times piece out of antennas. but aluminum recycles 100%.

  5. If anyone has an aerial/antennae that they no longer need why not put it on to freecycle? THere are people around with old style aerials that dont work properly/effectively with the freeview boxes...sure they would like to reuse them if you offer them

  6. The converter boxes will not replace antennas. They will only convert the analog signal to digital.  Cable or sattelite will not need the converter boxes.

  7. You will still need a way to receive the signal so you will still need the antenna to do this. Your antenna will connect to the modem (converter) and then it to the receiver (T.V.)

The difference with the new tech is that the signal will no longer be a video and audio transmission as analog. It will be digital, like modem noise. The box decodes this data stream into pictures and sound. It is basically the same thing we use to watch video on the internet with the exception that this is transmitted over radio frequencies and these streams will replace conventional broadcasts.

  8. Any kind of metal can be recycled. In fact if live in Wayne county area of Ohio I will pick up and haul away for you at no charge. It doesn't matter how small or big.

  9. If you are going to use a converter box you still have to use your antenna also.  The antenna hooks into the converter box then the converter box to your t.v.   So unless you have cable or satelitte you still need the antennas.   I already have my converter box and the picture is great and I get more channels.  It looks like I have cable.
