I'm looking to apply for an entry-level job in Hollywood, and this just keeps popping up. I've never had to do such a thing before when applying for a job in other industries. Is it appropriate to include this in the cover letter, and how exactly do I state such a thing?

  1. Say something like this at the end of your cover letter:

“Salary is negotiable, dependent upon the responsibilities of the position.”

You want to acknowledge the question, without answering it directly.

Read this article, for full explanation (you can read the whole thing, or just scroll down to read the last section, titled Salary Requirements.

  2. Simply state that you have a minimum salary requirement of $X.

You are doing yourself and your new boss a favor.  If they can't pay this, you would probably quit after a short time anyway.
