When applying for a visa, do they run your credit?

I'm from the US and my fiance is from Ireland. We're about to apply for a fiance visa to get married and get him citizenship in the US. I have bad credit and I'm worried that they will decline us because of it. Is that one of the things they check? What else do they check? Thanks!
