  1. You will get the pros and cons every time you open a newspaper, however we are now moving into the world of litigation.

To use an example, If an Aussie Rules club allowed a player to take a certain drug for his health, and the player dropped dead on the field due to dehydration or mentally playing beyond what his physical capacity can allow him to do safely, then the family could sue the club for reckless negligence.

In fact, there are more reasons for the sporting bodies to  have zero tolerance on any drugs/medication that a player could use, from a legal point of view that is.

I guess the players need to read the small print, just in case they can never get work away from the sporting arena because of a football injury, whether it be a  physical or psychological condition.

  2. drugs are never acceptable! it gives those who take them the higher ground!

  3. Drugs in sport are not acceptable if they enhance ones performance OR

    they are illegal drugs.

Drugs are permitted if they are for a medical problem.

I see no problem with a footballer taking medication to relieve and mend injuries.

  4. Sounds like a trick question to me...are they ever acceptable?

Unless its for medical reasons, then no they are not acceptable.

If the athelete is suffering depression or an ongoing medical condition that requires neccessary medication, then I think thats ok.

Acceptable ones in MY opinion would be anti-depressants, cortisone, anti-inflammatories, pain killers - but you would have to research which ones are infact legal in sports.

NB:  Under no circumstances would performance or illicit drugs be acceptable in sport.

  5. They are never acceptable but the drug testers are obviously getting some thing wrong Ben Cousins  tested negative14 times last year and Andrew Johns passed 13 drug tests and these are the ones we know about imagine how many more are out there getting away with it.

  6. illicit drugs should never be tolerated in sport.

hope that site helps, its on illicit drugs policy in afl.

only time drugs would be acceptable would be for help mending injuries, eg. pain killers etc
