  1. chipmaker basically has it right

in my words its: when they play for a certain amount of time, pitch a certain number of innings or have a certain number of at bats in the bigs

  2. A player's rookie status ends with the season in which he exceeds (exceeds, not meets; this is important in a small way) a major league total of:

    a. 130 at-bats, or

    b. 50.0 innings pitched, or

    c. 45 days on the active, 25-man roster (Opening Day through August 31).

  3. These guys are on the money, but if I can editorialize a moment.   We should make some exclusion for Japanese players.  It doesn't seem right that an established star like Ichiro or Matsui or Dice-K should be eligible ror rookie honors.  I am not saying to recognize Japanese stats, however.  Maybe we can do an age thing.
