When are parrotlets fully weaned?

how long does it take for them to be fully weaned? also do they tend to wean faster if they are in groups(like clutches instead of individuals) when are they ready to go to a new home?

  1. Each bird is different, each type of bird is different...

    We always let our babies wean at their own speed. When they don't want any more handfeeding, then they are weaned...

    We had a Quaker that weaned of at 7 weeks, but we also had a Greenwing that weaned off in 11 months.

    The bigger the bird the longer it takes as a rule of thumb...


  2. I breed pacific parrotlet mutations. Babys that are parent reared usually fledge within 3 weeks- that means leave the nest and begin to eat on their own. I have pulled baby's at 10 days and they have weaned at 3 weeks and some have taken up to 5. It just depends.  They are ready to go to new homes between 6 and 10 weeks. This is when they bond the best with new owners, so they should be going to their new homes by then.
