  1. Search the web 'London school holidays' or wherever you are.

  2. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Scho...

as the holidays may vary check this site

  3. Term dates are set by individual Authorities (Councils) rather then set nationally.

Check your Local Authority's website, it should have the term dates for the current academic year & the next academic year in their education section, you should also be able to find them by using the search function or the A - Z.

  4. The answer about them varying is right.  They are different according to which Local Authority your kids are in.  It is not enough to check the Government's site.  The schools have 5 Teacher Training days which they can take at their discretion.  Although there is some statutory guidance on school holidays the Headteacher of every school has quite generous leeway and may be making some radical decisions.  All schools will have already published their holidays - try their website, if not give them a call as they will have decided it well before now.  If they haven't look at other schools.

  5. They differ all over the country and each year!

    Rough estimates:

    September 4th - December 21st - Winter term

(with a half term at the end of october, usually 23rd - 31st October in my part of country)

    December 21st - January 4th - Christmas holidays

January 5th - Easter (depends each year)

(With a half term at end of Febuary - usually 23rd - 2nd March in my part of country)

    Easter - July 25th

(With a half term at end of May - usually this half term is the same everywhere because of gcse exams - roughly 23rd - 1st June)

Each individual school usually has 3 training days each year to

  6. Insofar as Scotland is concerned, it is usually the week in which October 12th lies.

However, some Local Education Authorities (for example in north east Scotland) took the following week in 2007.

You need to look at a range of Local Authority websites to get a better picture.

Another approach is to look in the brochures of package holida companies and to see in which weeks the prices go up!
