Question:

When are the eggs coming for my parakeets, and where should their perch be?

My birds try mating everyday and the female goes in the nest box everyday for 2-3 hours. They have been doing this for a week. So when should the eggs be here? And where should the perch be, inside or out? I have a separate perch just outside of the box so the birds can get in, but the box comes with a perch which I put inside. Should that stay there or should I take it out to make the inside of the box more roomy?

  1. The female will lay the eggs inside the box - no perches necessary.  The little perch that comes with the box should go on the outside.  This is for the male to sit on as he feeds the female through the hole.  Usually (not always) the female doesn't let the male in after she lays eggs - so she will come to the hole for the male to feed her.  Good luck to you and your budgies!  :)

  2. 1.  most birds mate several times before laying eggs.  It's a good sign that the hen is going into the nest box.

    2.  The perch on the inside is so the birds can get out of the nest and allow them to move.

  3. You should really try educating yourself on this before doing any breeding

What do you plan to do if these two refuse to feed the babies? Have you had someone show you how to handfeed? Are you prepared to stay up and feed every two hours if you have to hand raise early?

Are you feeding a proper diet so she can lay easily without becoming egg bound and dying herself?

There is so ,many things that need to be learned

No perch inside the box is needed

Once she has laid she will stay in there on them for the most part Dad will come and relieve and feed her

They usually lay a egg every other day.

What are you planning on doing with the babies?

Do you have a large enough cage for Mom Dad and the babies?

they may fight later when the babies are raised and you may need a extra cage many will move Dad and babies  to a new cage to give Mom a rest but be sure if this is the case to do so Before she and he mate again

Hope you have lots of time to put into this Oh and there is no money in it in case you were thinking that was a option.

best site for info is well the link can not be added check google for

    Hamilton District bird society

the top link is the one you want

  4. check in the box for eggs...there probably are some...let the parent birds feed them until they grow all their feathers. when they are weaned you should handle them constantly. i think the perch should be outside the nesting box because theyll need as much space as possible
