  1. When they quit electing people like Bush & Cheney.

  2. i'd say upwards of $10 per gallon for gas.  That's when it will be economical.

  3. In response to Hard Crowbar, I'd just say that here in the UK petrol (gas) already stands at about the equivalent of $10 a gallon and there is no sign of any great investment in public transport.

  4. Last I heard it was like the year 2020. There is also one proposed from Dallas to Houston with an 8 lane highway and three rails straight as an arrow

  5. Its finished just show up at Union Station in LA, and ask for a ticket to the 3 pm maglev train to Vegas

  6. COMPLETE ??? They haven't even gotten past the PROPOSAL phase... greedy polititans s***w it up:

California-Nevada Interstate Maglev: High-speed maglev lines between major cities of southern California and Las Vegas are also being studied via the California-Nevada Interstate Maglev Project. This plan was originally supposed to be part of an I-5 or I-15 expansion plan, but the federal government has ruled it must be separated from interstate public work projects.

Since the federal government decision, private groups from Nevada have proposed a line running from Las Vegas to Los Angeles with stops in Primm, Nevada; Baker, California; and points throughout Riverside County into Los Angeles. Southern California politicians have not been receptive to these proposals; many are concerned that a high speed rail line out of state would drive out dollars that would be spent in state "on a rail" to Nevada.

The California High-Speed Rail project is a proposed high-speed rail system in the state of California. The system is being planned by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, which will design, build, and operate the system.

It is currently in the Environment Impact Report (EIR) and route selection stages, with the second of two Draft Environmental Statements released to the public on July 20, 2007. An implementation plan approved in August 2005 estimated that it would take 8 to 11 years to "develop and begin operation of an initial segment of the California high-speed train
