When asked in an interview "Why do you want to work for us", is it a good idea to say "I need the money"?

I was in a group interview not too long ago for Victorias Secret, and there were three of us answering questions at the same time. The interviewer asked "Why do you want to work for Victoria's Secret"?

Girl 1 said because her job that she had at that time was boring and demanding, and she wanted a job that was laid back, fun, and flirty.

I said because I feel that I can bring all my sales experience to the table and make sure the customer is informed and comfortable with the store while making sure I can sell a product.

Girl 3 said "Well, I need the money..." and then said a sentence or two after that.

Whose answer was stupid and whose was good? I thought the other two girls answers were stupid, because girl 1 downplayed Victoria Secret as a company and girl 3 didn't say anything about the company at all. What do you think?

your correct you had the better answer, but, in the case of a sales position like at VS the girl who said she need the money maybe your co-worker(dont be surpised if she is). People like depserate sellers the theory is they will do what is neccessary to make the money.

1 and 3 were at least honest.  Yours was full of BS.  People don't work retail dealing with people to make the customer happy.  They are doing it to make money.

Your answer was the politically correct answer, but if the interviewer was smart they saw right through it.  Answer 1 and 3 were not the right thing to say, and they probably won't get the job, but at least they were 100% honest...../

I think that use an answer as such " I need the money" is just displaying your self as desperate if your applying for a higher end job espcially.  The employer should hear about what you like about the job, what you know about the company, to ensure that you seem sincere with wanting the job if your not already.  Or showing it.  Hope that helped CIAO!!!
