i am making meringue and on the website where i got the recipe it said bake in a 250 degree oven for 50 minutes. it doesn't say degrees celcius or fahrenheit.

we have a gas oven so if it was fahrenheit it would be gas mark half. but if it was celcius it would be gas mark 9.

which of these would it be?

thanks

  1. i agree with cornish gran long and slow

  2. I'm sure it's Fahrenheit, it needs to brown the tips, I've never seen a recipe list temps in Celsius.

  3. Fahrenheit

  4. Meringues are baked at a very very low temperature so they can dry out.

  5. You don't have a hot oven for meringues, they would burn, you need a very low temperature and just before end of cooking time, turn oven off altogether but leave meringues in oven till cool.

The oven should be pre-heated to gas mark 2, 300°F (150°C) but do make sure you are not going to be using it for anything else, since the meringues stay in the oven until it is completely cold, so that they partly bake and then slowly dry out.

  6. it would be gas mark half.  meringues are normally cooked at a very low temperature for a long time, so that they dry out a bit.

  7. 250 degrees Celsius = 482 degrees Fahrenheit

At this temperature your food would be turned to carbon in 50 minutes.

  8. Gas half
