When betting, i know what head to head is, but what is meant by "line"?

for example, with rugby league, it will say something along the lines of:

Warriors -10.5 $1.90

Souths -10.5 $1.90

  1. Basically they are giving one team a head start. One team, let's say the Warriors, will have +10.5 and ones team, let's say Souths, will have -10.5 points.

    In the actual game lets say Souths win 18 - 10.

    Well, for the purposes of the bet, the Warriors are deemed to have won 20.5 to 18.

    If Souths won 20-10, the Warriors are still deemed to have won (20.5 to 20). For anyone who bet on Souths to collect they would have to win by 11 points.

    The bets are always quoted with a half a point in the margin to absolutely avoid any chance of a draw on the adjusted scores.
