  1. It's simply not true that ALL Black people talk loudly; nor is it true that no one else ever does.

  2. Perhaps you just notice it more when a black person does it.

My community college is over 50% black.  I don't notice this pattern at all.  There are just as many loud-mouthed whites as there are blacks.  Most of the students aren't exceptionally loud.  A few obnoxious ones are.  It's not a black thing. It's a "Hey, world, look at me!" thing.

  4. It's a cultural thingy. Me for example, I've got some Greek relatives who love to yell at everyone as well :-). They don't mean it in a bad or angry way, it's actually more the opposite. All around the Mediterranean Sea, speaking in a loud way is very common. In Greece, Italy, Spain, but also in big parts of Africa. For those people it is a sign of being happy and in a good mood. It just belongs to their culture and is meant to give you the warm feeling of being welcome. Maybe you've noticed, that they also like to laugh a lot and mostly in a quite loud way. So, if you ever go to these countries of Europe, or to Africa, don't be offended of this, because in their culture, it is something very positive. However, if you're not used to it, you can get irritated by it. Sometimes, for example, I believe my relatives from Greece are having a serious fight, but in fact, they are only telling some story to each other :-).

And I guess, the black Americans just kinda kept this cultural aspect. Personally, I think it's cool, cause it's a sign of their origin. Even if it's annoying sometimes :-).

  5. Its a game.  You should accept the challenge for a friendly competition.

First person to run out of things to say or speak softer than the previous person loses.

If you win, you may claim 1 street cred at a future gathering.

  6. Not sure.  I do notice that people from japan are very hard to talk to because they are so quiet, and it's rude to be loud in their culture.

So maybe it's just their culture?

  7. Always?

I've heard some VERY loud people out there.  Sometimes, they are black, and sometimes they are not.  The worst example I can cite was at a Mexican restaurant.  Two women sat behind me and talked on and on, about next to nothing--laughing the whole time.  Their personalities, the tone of their voices and what they were saying (or not) had me gritting my teeth.  They were loud and annoying.  I finally had to leave--they were driving me nuts.  Guess what?  They were Asian.  You just notice it more with black people because you want to.

  8. I don't think it is ALL black people I think it is more likely to be the attention seekers and they come from all races.
