When buying a camcorder is it better to buy one with a memory card or mini cd?

my hubby and i are moving to italy and we would like to video tape what we see and send some copies home to family. What kind of camcorder is best for my situation? I don't know much about the memory cards or mini cds. I will be doing alot of recording. Is memory cards, or mini dvds cheaper in the end? thank u

I think the memory card is better.  The mini DVD is only 1.4 GB and you have to change them every 30 minutes.  They also take power to record, reducing the battery capacity.  A memory card doesn't take much energy to store the information so the battery lasts longer.  If you get one with a lot of capacity you can record longer without the breaks necessary to change a mini DVD.  A memory card can be 8 GB or even bigger.  Two memory cards will cost a bit at the start but will give you much more flexibility is recording.


  2. Memory card is more convenient, you need lots of hard drive space to copy it onto.  So figure you need to get one, but external HDs are cheap these days - 1tb can be found for under $250.
