When buying a hamster cage is a starter kit a good idea?

The Starter Kit I might get if I get a hamster would have food, water bottle, bedding, food bowl, 2nd level shelf, and a silent hamster wheel for 26$. Is it a good idea or do you think I should get a better cage?

totally! Why not buy it. the cage is cheap but it comes with all of the hamsters needs.

The whole kit sounds great, even the price is very reasonable. My only question is, what kind of bedding is it? If it's any kind of wood chip (cedar, pine, aspen), I would stay away from it, the dusts and oils (cedar) can cause Upper Repsiratory Infections (which can be fatal). If it has something along the lines of Carefresh, Kaytee Total Comfort, SoftSorbent you should be fine.

I currently work at a petstore and we use Aspen, we do see URI's occur with this kind of bedding. We usually end up taking them to the vet and they are started on an antibiotic like Baytril. Once you have to start the vet visits, costs can go up pretty quick, depending upon how bad it gets. So, best cahnce to avoid this problem is to make sure you have a good kind of bedding.

Yes, that is a good idea because you get to learn more about hamsters and what it likes and stuff and is at a pretty good price so when you really know your hamster, you can buy special things for it=)

If it's your first hamster get one that's what I first bought.Your starting it so you should really get one.
