When can I buy an electric car?

You can buy cars that are all electric  in the USA, there is a great company that makes them they are Phoenix Motorcars.   Their website is http://phoenixmotorcars.com/  There are probably others but I have heard that phoenix is the best.

There are a few currently available, but not many.  In the next year or two, several more will become available.  See the link below for details.

Only the ones that are based upon golf carts and go about 25 mph.  The Phoenix and the Tesla are not really in production: both companies claim that their cars will be available in perhaps a year, perhaps longer.  Tesla Motors has made something like nine cars altogether thus far, and their finances are not looking so healthy.  There's also an electric three-wheeler that can't be registered in Massachusetts.  

So no.  I don't believe you'll be seeing electric cars for some time yet.  Gasoline is still a pretty good fuel if you have a light vehicle and drive sensibly.
