  1. Most vets will tell you that after 1 year of age to switch over to adult dog food...unless he is underweight in which case the puppy food will help him gain it.

My dog was a bit underweight a a year so we kept her on pup food (per vet request) for a few more months to get her to an ideal weight for her breed.

  2. I started feeding my two goldens (Tinkerbell and Spock Tink was a bad girl today) adult dog food when they where nine months old.

  3. My Goldens usually have the Puppy Food up until the age of 6 months and then I gradually introduce them to a Junior Food.     At 12 months I switch them over to Adult Food.

Not all brands do a Junior food so if this is the case you need to stick with the Puppy until your pup is 12 months old.  It will have been specially formulated to give him all the nutriments and vitamins he needs for his growth and bone development.

  4. Introduce the adult food slowly - too quick and it'll be too rich for her stomach and cause problems. Carry on giving her the puppy food but mix in two teaspoons of the adult food in her afternoon feed plus the evening feed. Leave the morning feed as it is for the moment and just give her extra teaspoons of adult food in the two later feeds every few days until she's just got puppy food for breakfast. After about a week on the adult food as later feeds, mix in a teaspoon of adult food into her breakfast and just increase it until she's on no puppy food at all. You may have to put up with her having the runs for a day or two whilst her stomach gets used to the new food but if its done over a few weeks then you may get away with it - fingers crossed ha ha. If she does get the runs you might have to change her adult food, some brands are richer than others but you can always fall back on the carpet-saver! A hard-boiled egg, cooled down and chopped up will bind her up and stop the stomach ache and runs, stop the adult food and keep to dry biscuits until her stomach has settled. Some dogs never take to adult dog food - mine didn't and so they have cooked chicken / fish / rice / cooked and raw veg / dog biscuits / what i have for dinner within reason!!! Is trial and error but try your hardest to get her on adult dog food - my dog's diet's are a nightmare to cater for and can work out expensive! Good luck.

  5. Between 9-18 months.

  6. Usually at about 9 - 10 months you can wean them onto Adult food but idealistically it should be 11- 12 months

  7. when shes about 12 weeks old.

  8. When she is around a year old unless your vet suggests otherwise.

  9. I started mine around a year, I started mixing adult food into her puppy food, so she wouldn't get sick, or ask your vet.

  10. You can move on to lower protein adult food now if you like or get the Junior formula.

Large breeds do not do well on puppy/junior formulas for too lon (not that a golden retriever is a large dog) as the protein levels can be too high and lead to them growing too fast and damaging their joints etc by bulking up too fast before their skeletal system had developed fully.

Have a chat to the breeder and or your vet who will be able to advise you on the correct type of food to feed your individual

  11. The vets and animal food companies say 1 year old

  12. You should feed you 6 month old puppy adult food when she is mature around the age of 1 1/2 - 2 years old.

  13. 1yr old unless your vet suggests otherwise.

  14. I prefer to feed large breed puppy food of good quality.  As long as you are feeding a good quality food you can switch to an adult variety.  I would not feed a puppy food not meant for large breeds as it could cause your dog to grow too fast and cause her skeletal and joint problems.
