When can I give blood?

I was hit by a car 5 years ago when I was 15 years old and had 5 pints of blood pumped back into me. I would love too give blood as I have a rare blood type but some one told me you cant if you have had a blood transfusion before is this correct??

  1. This is not correct. After five years, there's no reason you can't give blood as long as your healthy, not taking any drugs, and don't have any sort of infection.

    You can go to the Red Cross and ask directly, or to a local blood bank. They check all the blood they accept very carefully for things that would disqualify you, and will let you know.


  2. Unless that tranfusion gave you HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis, then you should be ok.  Red Blood cells are only good for 90 days, then they die and are removed from the body.  So, unless that transfusion gave you some super blood, than you will be giving your own when you donate.

    Check with your doctor to make sure.

  3. Do not depend upon "Some one " you should seek expert advise in this regard. You consult your family doctor and do as per his advise.  A normal person can give blood once in every months time.

  4. u can give blood any time and.pls donate if you r now in healthy state..many ppl believe in myths about blood donations such as u ll lose ur hair if donate, and so on....
