Question:

When can I own a long gun legally?

I got arrested when I was 17 for simple possession of marijuana and possession of paraphenalia. Then when I was 18 I was ticketed for possession of less than 14g and paraphenalia, but those charges were dismissed on illegal search and seizure. I am 19 now and the charge for the simple possession and parahenalia when I was 17 is not there anymore on my record I did a search online. But the dismissed charge from when I was 18 is still on there. I was denied in January of last year for a rifle because of the weed charges. Shouldn't I be able to get one by now? Will the dismissed charges from when I was 18 prevent me from getting a gun now?

  1. If you are not a felon or on parole, you can legally buy a rifle or shotgun at age 18, and a pistol or hndgun at age 21. Schedule a meeting with an officer at your local police station and ask why your dismissed charges are on there, then you should be fine. Hope I was of help.

  2. You need to get your record cleaned up.

Otherwise, I'm not sure you're mature enough to own a gun since you have possession charges each of the last two years.

  3. misdemeanor? You first have to get that expunge before you are allowed to get a gun. You can go through a few different ways in getting it expunged. One of writing to the governor to get a pardon. But don't bother going out and trying to buy a firearm. When they DROS it you'll be denied.
