She's two and one half.

I have a horrible fear of the water and I don't want her to have it too. I hate the fact that I can't swim...I want her to know how.

  1. As young as about 3 just take her swimming and get her used to the water see if there are any swimming classes but there is normally age limit of about 5 :)

  2. I see babies having swim class all the time when I bring my 6 year old daughter to her swim classes.  We started her off at 3 years old and now she swims like a fish.  I am very proud of her.

  3. swim lessons at a pool

  4. You could take a Mommy & Me class.  Not only will it teach your daughter that water play is fun, but it'll help you to face your fears to.  If your daughter sees that you have inhibitions about the water, that may transfer onto her and she may be uneasy in the water as well.  Kids are very keen on picking up cues like that.

  5. 4 or so make her interested in water first

  6. you could start teaching them now. i taught my neice how to swim when she was like 11 months old. i put a life vest on her and then just went in with her. i taught her how to hold her breath and paddle..start slow. but you'll be surprised how fast kids can learn.

    have fun.

  7. My brother learned when he was 2

  8. Some babies learn to swim pretty well, but they don't remember how past about the age of 2 or 3 and have to relearn those large motor skills. 4 or 5 is about the right age to develop those skills.

I would also make sure she takes lessons from someone who ISN'T afraid of the water so none of your tension is perceived by her and somehow incorporated into her thought processes.

  9. um. well i learned when i was 4 my brother tought me soo probably i think when your younger it may help her to not have problems with swimming because she can get used to it fast and she wont be scared once she gets the hang of it. Oh and if she doesnt understand the motions and stuff of swimming you could get her a life jacket and then maybe get to floaties because you can swim more freely with those

    hope i helped!

  10. Try going to Target or Wal*Mart and buy one of those swimming suits with the built in floatation and put in on her. Go in with her and guide her through the water. She'll love it and you won't even need to go deeper than 3 feet of water. I know in my community, swim lessions start at age 2. You should also check what age they start at in your community! Good luck!

    :)

  11. Check out this website... It is really never too early, But I wouldn't know how to go about teaching a baby how to swim. Put her into swimming lessons during the summer at your local pool, and have her go through all of the lessons that they offer.

  12. Daughter was on her own with water wings when she was 2. (water wings = those inflatable doughnuts that go over their arms.)

You need to get over your fear of water too, or she'll pick that up. Get in with her and learn to swim yourself!

  13. Teach your child to swim. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children begin swimming lessons at 4 years old. I understand that you have a fear of water but I suggest you to get over your fear or you can send your child to a swim center.

  14. my nice was part of a program at the pool near my home she learned @ the age of 15 months. she's a natural.
