My child is a year old. I don't add salt to my cooking so i know i can give him our food but i worry when i go out. At restaurants or people's houses for dinner, when can i give my child these foods without knowing the salt content?

  1. Obviously sodium is bad for everyone, especially babies. It is great you don't add salt at home while cooking so baby can join in the family meals.

Think about it this way... sodium in small doses isn't going to hurt baby. I think your child is old enough to eat restaurant food and such without worry. Alyssa is 9 months old and she eats where ever we go...

A lot of "kid" food has sodium. Think how many kids eat a handful of cheerios... a kid portion (3/4 cup) has 140 mg of sodium! Milk has sodium. Everything does. A little salt is okay for kids.

  2. Usually at about a year, it just depends on the baby. Try and you'll know if he's ready.

  3. If your child finds it too salty, they won't eat it. That simple. My son is 8 1/2 months old and I give him whatever is on my plate when we're out at a restaurant. If he didn't like it he wouldn't eat it.

  4. Providing you are giving a healthy diet at home most of the time , i wouldnt worry about restaurant food or other peoples cooking, Chill and enjoy your child.

  5. One year is a good age.

  6. My son was nursing ONLY breast for 7 straight months even with teeth. As I was eating a roast beef sandwich he was nuirsing and grabbed it out of my hand and shoved it in his mouth and chewed it.

    Weaned him the next day.

  7. As long as he can eat the food you make at home they can eat the food when you go out. My daughter and son both ate out with us at like 10 months when they were able to actually eat and chew. Don't worry about the salt content. Never was an issue for me and my doctors have never mentioned it.

  8. Don't worry honey... go right ahead.

I made my own baby food for my son and by the time he was 8 months old he was eating food from people's house and restaurant food. See if your child is not eating that everyday that is nothing wrong with it. Nothing at all. Just be careful he/she might get used to the nice spiced food :) yummy!
