When can a driver officially remove his rookie stripes?

Is it after a set number of races? Or does if have to do with tracks? What is the official rules regarding rookie stripes?

  5. After their first season of 8 or more races (If you compete in 7 or less you are still considered a rookie).

    They also use a rookie stripe if they have never competed at a particular track before.  For example, Brad Keselowski has over 50 starts in the NNS but had a rookie stripe on his car at Kentucky because it was his first time their in a Nationwide car.

  6. It does not matter if it is the first year or not, they have to complete 8 full races, then the rookie stripes come off.

    if they fail to run all 8 races, then it will go into the next race season, per Nascar rules.
