When can i put my fish in the aqaruim

ok i just put all the water and the filter and everything that needs to be their now when can i put the fish in it, also it had hamsters in it berfore but i cleand it help.

I was always told from every pet store I have ever been too it to wait. I was told after it is completely clean, then you have to put the water conditioner in. I think that is what it is called. It is the stuff that makes the water not so harsh for the fish. Another thing that a man taught me was that if you can, and hopefully you can, put some fish food in the tank, and let the filter run with it for a day or two. That really helps the fish, how I don't know! I was told that, and when I did it they did fine, the time I didn't, they died the next day. So if you can, try the fish food trick! It worked for me! Then when you do get your fish to the house two days later, cut the bag open at the top for air, and let them sit in the tank for about a half an hour, or until the water in the bag matches the one in the tank. Then you can release then. Don't forget to open the bag though!! They need air. I hoped I helped!!

It depends.  If it has never had fish in it before, it needs to sit for a while to prepare the water for fish.  It is called cycling the tank. When you do start adding fish, you need to add one at a time so that the ammonia levels from the fish waste stabilizes in the tank.  Otherwise the fish will die.  Add a fish every few weeks.

truthfully you dont need to wait that long to put your fish in. most people say that but your fish arnt going to die. when i switched from one tank to a larger tank i just waited untill the water cleared in the new tank and put them in. and poof, nothing bad happened

i have had many tanks, i never cycled any of them, i even set up my 55 gallon and added a ton of fish the same day, all of them are fine and growing, i don't believe in cycling a tank, i also have an oscar,bass,and bluegill in a 55 gallon with goldfish and koi, they are all growing and living fine after bout 5 months in that tank

PLEASE cycle your tank, especially if it is a small one (10 gallons). People who dont cycle their tanks just get lucky. Read up on the nitrogen cycle. Your tank needs to build up a certain level of beneficial bacteria to combat dangerous ammonia that is produced by the fish's waste. It usually takes about a month to cycle your tank. Look up the nitrogen cycle and buy an ammonia and nitrite test kit. The fish need to go in one or two at a time or there will be too much ammonia at once and this will KILL your fish.

Trust me, I killed many fish before I knew about cycling. It is a long process and you must be patient. Just please inform yourself before you do something blindly and cause yourself much frustration. How big is your tank? Please tell me it's at least 10 gallons. Anything smaller is very difficult to cycle if not impossible. How many fish are you planning to have and what type?

I am very impatient and I cannot wait three days to put a fish in its tank. I only wait 24 hours sometimes even 12! I know it's not good for the fish but I still do it.

All you really need now is to put water conditioner in the water (make sure to put the right amount, I poisoned my goldfish with it). I never checked my pH or ammonia and I fish have been living for more than a year now. If you want tropical fish also have a heater. They will become less stressed. If you just want goldfish or other coldwater fish you only need a filter.

Well first you have to put some anti chlorine stuff so the water you use is clean from the tap water. Then you can like put them in right away! But if you just put in tap water, you either gotta let it set for a long while before you put them in. If you treated your water and the temperature is good, your good to go right away! You will need to cycle your aquarium if you are planning to have a fresh water tank.  What kind of fish are you getting?  Cycling takes weeks.  If you put your fish in before you cycle they will die.
