  1. I gave my cat wet food like 4 days ago make a time to give it wet food everyday only give it half a can I give mine half a can of wet food at 4pm everyday

  2. Last week, when they turned 3 weeks, you can start giving then canned. At three weeks you should start seeing them try to eat with mom cat. The best thing to do is to feed Mom a high quality canned diet and that will entice the little ones and they will start eating with her.

Don't mix water into dry food. The water takes up to much space and the kittens don't get enough nutrition when you do that. Feed a high quality canned only diet to the mom, who will then teach the kittens to eat. :o)

Keep this in mind.  Cats were never meant to eat dry food, also known as cereals or kibble. We, humans, make them eat it for convenience to us. It has nothing to do with them or their nutritional needs. It's completely species inappropriate.

All small domestic cats descended from desert cats. In the wild, desert cats derive their entire liquid intake from their prey. They do not have a thirst mechanism because they don't need it when eating a species appropriate diet. They get all they need from what they eat. Additionally water was usually not available to them in their desert climate. So they do not often drink water. Regular ol' house cats have descended from those same wild desert cats.

So in a home environment, your kitty does not get the moisture it needs from dry food and it’s almost always in a constant state of dehydration. Water fountains are encouraged to TRY to get your cat to drink more and your kitty may even enjoy it, but it will never meet its water intake needs drinking from a bowl.

Deadly feline illnesses such as diabetes, kidney failure, obesity, allergies, Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), bladder stones, kidney stones,  urinary tract blockages and Urinary Tract Infections (FLUTD), with and without deadly crystals run rampant these days. Cats are not taking in enough water to stave them off. Proper water intake through a species appropriate diet alone can prevent most of these conditions.

Overall,  wet is all around better for any cats diet, be it canned or Raw and they should never be fed dry cereal kibble if we wish to most closely match their wild nutritional and dietary needs. Kibble meets our needs… not our cats.

I recommend varying the diet with a constant rotation of accepted canned foods that your cat enjoys. If you do this, and allow your cat the same assortment they would have in nature when eating mice, bugs, birds and rabbits, your cats’ digestive system won't be so sensitive and you won't have to run around looking for a specific brand when your store is out. You will have a nice variety to choose from instead.

Canned foods I recommend for your rotation:

  3. Hello, you can now start giving them canned cat food, but limit it to the regular kind, no gravy, no shreddedd. Feed only chicken, turkey or beef. No fish or organs meats at this age. Some may not eat it but give them time. They will still need to nurse from  the mother cat, but make sure that you have fresh water available always. When first giving them food, put it in a saucer instead of a bowl. It is easier for them to feed this way. Have fun with the kittens.

  4. I foster little kittens all the time. Here is a schedule for feeding the little guys.

At 4 weeks start mixing a little canned KITTEN food with some formula that you can get at the pet store. Make a thin gruel out of it and let the learn to lap it up

Gradually lessen the amount of formula to the amount of canned food. until the formula is gone from the mix. This also gives Mom a way to wean them also.

At about 6 weeks you can start supplementing dry kitten chow in a separate dish.

They will thrive on this way of doing it.

  5. Try them on a little bit and see how they take to it.Be sure to feed a good high quality food.It should be high protein.Cats in the wild eat mostly meat and pet cats basically need the same thing.Good luck with your new babies.
