How often and when in the game can you do a check move in texas holdem poker?

  1. You can check during any betting round, assuming no player acting before you has made a bet.


  2. Check is simply a no-bet play.  At the beginning of the hand, with blinds, the big blind has the option to check if no one raises the big blind before it comes back to them.  After the flop the 1st person and there after have the option to check which again means "no-bet" so if everyone checks the next card comes up.  A strategy to use with a check is to check a strong hand into someone who might be trying to buy the pot.  This way you are not revealing your strong hand and are pulling some extra chips/money away from them.

  3. if nobody has raised, you can check.

    but as soon as somebody raises, you need to either call, fold, or re-raise

    this doesn't apply before the flop

    unless you are the big blind, you'll either have to call, raise, or fold before the flop
