i was diagnosed with PCOS two years ago, on the 22nd Aug 2008 i went to my gyaeny and she took a scan discovering that i have no more cysts on my ovaries. i lost 23kgs and my periods have been regular ever since the start of the year. i had unproctected s*x with my partner three days before ovulation. i have been feeling really emotional all week and have had stomach cramps and backpains not to mention headache. i understand PCOS can hinder fertility? but seeing that i lost 24% of my weight can i be pregnant?

  1. you may be, wait till you really know you missed your period, then get a home preg. test and see if still not sure  see your ob/gyn

  2. I have PCOS and I've always been thin, never overweight in my life. I don't understand how losing weight can make cysts disappear...??? Extra weight is only one sign of PCOS that not all women have. Your ovaries get covered with cysts because those are the eggs that don't make it out, get stuck in the ovary and later form a cyst.

It's still possible to conceive with PCOS, just more difficult as you may only ovulate once or twice a year if that. I am pregnant now but had to take fertility drugs to make me ovulate. If you've been trying to conceive for over a year it's time to see a fertility specialist. It worked for me! :)

  3. Congratulations on the weight loss! IF you ARE pregnant it will make your life a lot easier :-)

If your periods are regular then there is a chance you could be pregnant, but you'll really need to wait til your period is due to find out for sure!

There are home pregnancy tests you can use a few days beforehand, but you'll get better results if you wait til after you're due. If you get your period then that's generally a good indication you're not pregnant (although not always, have a look through a few of the other questions on here for other answers on bleeding during pregnancy), and if it doesn't turn up on time, you will get a more accurate result from a home test.

    Best of luck!
