When can you move back in after a fire...

my aunt caught her kitchen on fire a year ago, and ever since she has been living with me and my grandparents. they are done with her house and she said all she lacks is a tv and curtains. but she said she wont b able to move back in untill they tell her. she's getting on my grandparent nerves, she eats everything of our's and we cant even touch her food. all she does is sleep. she gets into my grandmothers meds. do you know how long it usually takes for ppl to be able to move back?

  1. Not until she gets an official clearance from the fire dept. and habitability certificate from your local city/county building code dept.

Here you can move back in even before the construction is complete..and you do not need no certificate of occupancy at all... you don't even have to contact the city at all..the only way you have to do that if it's a condemened house totally desegrated...Just a kitchen being caught on fire does not constitute it being condemned..here you can move back in as soon as the soot and charred areas are treated...I am in Florida , and in the city...they cannot prevent you from moving in when you want period..and we have pretty stringent laws..

  3. not until it is safe, go to the insurance company or who ever is working on the house and get an time deadline. There still might be some smoke damage
