my daughter took two steps by herself today. (yay!!) so when people say their kids started walking at ____months do they mean they took their first steps at ____months or was walking across a room at _____months? and how many steps do they need to take by themselves before its considered first steps? does 2 steps count as first steps or should it be like 10 steps?

  1. It counts from their first step. Reason being, that one step becomes several very quickly.

  2. more than 1

  3. To me walking is when they start taking 5 or more steps without holding on.  Or when they aren't just trying to get from one thing to another.  But just walking for the fun of walking.

And when I say my son was "walking at 9 months" I mean he was running away from me before he was 10 months old.  He went from taking one step between objects to literally running within 2 weeks.  It was nuts!

  4. i think it should be thier first step because they are kinda walking

  5. I think first steps includes the first two that your little gal did today (yay!!! lol). I don't think of my son as walking until he started walking across the room, which he did at about 13.5mths. it only took about 10 steps to do so.

  6. My son took 2 or 3 steps by himself at 12 months so i just tell people he started walking then. it was short distance but he walked!!!

  7. i would say that the first steps without holding onto anything count.  once a baby takes one step, they are usually walking across the room within a week anyway, so it's pretty much the same thing.
