I don't think I asked the question clear enough. Here goes. I put in a "claim" for a horse. When is it mine? If the "owner" finds out someone is going to "Claim" his horse, can he "scratch" it before the race and keep the horse?

  1. A horse can be scratched any time before the gate springs. It can be scratched any time proir to the start of the race.

  2. In most places it is anytime before 15 minutes to post. I believe the horse must step onto the track also.
