  1. Well peanut and nut allergies are different as peanuts aren't nuts.  But I gave my daughters peanut butter at 2.  My niece on the other hand has had nuts, and she isn't two. But I am holding off on the peanut butter as she got a hold of a peanut butter pretzel about 8 months ago or so, and broke out.

  2. I think she's at a good age to introduce small amounts. Try one type of nut at a time, so you can be sure what the cause is if she has a reaction.

  3. Honestly, she coulda had peanut butter a long time ago. Atleast by a yr.. She can't have loads of it, but a piece of toast with peanut butter on it is fine!

  4. If they run in your family it is best to wait until 3 years old.

I gave my daughter peanut butter around 13 month because there are no allergies in either side of the family and she did fine.

  5. I gave my now 2yr old son peanut butter and 15 months old, that is something I would never do again,he broke out in a very red rash and his face swelled up so i had to take him to the hospital,I thought it would be safe because no one in my family or his dads family have food allergies and his 4 year old brother also doesn't have them so just be carefull in giving it to her and only in very small amounts

my 4yr old is a little upset now because I wont allow peanut butter in the house and he loves it but with Alex(my 2 yr old) having a allergy to it I just dont want to take the risk

  6. if you have allergies in your family wait til 2 but if not he should be ok now.

  7. most say 2yrs

  8. While peanut allergy is the most common food allergy, it's not exactly common in and of itself---I don't know anyone that's allergic to peanuts. Food allergies in general are only found in 3-6% of children.

That said, peanut butter is generally considered only unsafe to high risk children--those with a family history or a personal history of food allergies. The AAP recommends waiting until 3 to introduce peanut butter to this group of children. But for most children, 1 year is fine.

However, keep in mind that peanut butter is rather tacky and thick and may pose a choking hazard. My 17 month old loves pb&j sandwiches, but I make sure to put on just the thinnest layer of peanut butter.

For children with a family history of allergies, the AAP recommends refraining from introducing these allergenic foods into the child's diet until he or she reaches the following ages:

Cow’s milk and other dairy foods (age 12 months)

Egg and egg-containing foods (age 24 months)

Peanuts and tree nuts (age 36 months)

Fish and shellfish (age 36 months)

  9. i would at your child's next well child check-up ask her dr when it would be appropriate
