When can you start wearing your army rank?

So I just ranked up but have been told that I cant wear it till I get pinned. I have also heard that once you are getting paid for your rank you can wear it. anyone know and if so do you know the AR number

Once it's official you can wear it but usually your supervisor and the people you work with or the commander will schedule a small pinning ceremony on the day that it is official or very close.  Ask your NCOIC what is best to do in your case.

You are entitled to wear your new rank when you receive your orders.

You can wear it when you recieve you orders, and usually you want till your unit Pins you in a formation. The regulation is AR 600-8-19

AR 600-8-19 states:

para 1–23. Promotion ceremonies and certificates

a. Promotion ceremonies will be held on the effective date of promotion. Early promotion ceremonies may be held when the effective date of promotion is on a nonduty day.

b. The promotion certificate is not the official instrument for promotion. The promotion order will be used as the source for grade, effective date, and DOR for all record and pay purposes.

c. A Soldier who is reduced one or more grades will receive the appropriate certificate when again promoted.

d. Promotion certificates for Soldiers promoted to SPC and above will be prepared by the unit or battalion (BN) human resources (HR) for signature by the SGT/SSG promotion authority. Any higher level CDR may direct that signature authority be held at his or her level, but the certificate will still be prepared by the unit or BN HR.

Although you're getting paid for your new rank, you can't wear your new rank until you receive orders for your promotion.  You must have orders to wear it because it will state your effective date.

What matters the most is if you're getting paid for it.  All other minor details such as getting your promotion orders can be worked out.

PS:  You don't "rank up"...you get PROMOTED. :)
