when carlos arroyo and bostjan nachbar was going to play in europe, nobody made a big deal but when josh childress did it, everybody is making a big deal. i think they're making a big deal of it because he's black and other players like nachbar and arroyo are not

  1. Umm Nachbar, Arroyo, and Juan Carlos Navarro were all foreigners who came here to play professionally at the top level...it's understandable if they go back to Europe to play...it's weird to see a good NBA AMERICAN player leave to play in Greece

It's be on level with like Kevin Youkilis deciding to go play in Japan next season

  2. carlos arroyo join with what team ?

  3. well yeah because arroyo and nachbar aren't American. childress is, and this is the first time (that i know of anyways) that an American has gone overseas to play to pass up an NBA contract. I realize people that don't quite have the goods to play in the NBA play overseas often, but thats beside the point..

  4. Also, it's the dream of most American basketball players to play in the NBA. Assuming this is also what Childress wanted to do all his life, it's kind of alarming that he would bolt for a lesser league.

  5. EXACTLY

  6. I do not think its a race thing.  However that being said arroyo and nachbar arent americans so its not a big deal to the american public or media when they leave or go back in some cases.  Childress is young and could be a great player in years to come.  I do not think its because he is black because I think if a player like boris diaw, or mickael petrius were to go back to play in france they might make a little bit of a stir just like biedrins or someone like that so I would find it hard to beleive that its a black or white thing.

  7. yea

  8. Arroyo and Nachbar are discontent with being roleplayers. Plus, they were free agents and roleplayers.

Childress is just three years removed from being the fifth overall draft pick. He's young, athletic, and a solid piece of that young Hawks team. That's why it was such a big deal about him.

But plenty of players have left to play overseas because they wanted to escape their current situations. Danny Ainge played in Europe for a year because he didn't want to play for the Clippers (who the h**l does?)

Nothing to do with his race.
