When child tax credits ask me how much i've earnt for the year cant they find out for themselves?

as they are part of hm revenue.it would be more accurate and save time

  3. HMRC staff can only do so much with the resources they are given and then with the staff cuts and office closures they are not miracle workers.  Give them a chance and help them out by filling in a simple form.

    It is up to the claimant to make sure that they declare their income and make an accurate claim.

  4. You may have earnings which are not under PAYE, eg part time earnings below the tax threshold, or bank interest which they certainly wouldn't know about, or income from abroad. You may also have self employed earnings which have not yet been declared. This is your chance to give the Tax Credits people the full picture about your income.

    In case of doubt  by the way all income paid by an employer to any employee, however small is required to be returned to the Revenue on the employers annual return P35.
