When clams are dead can they still be closed?

i thought that clams could only be dead if they were opened... can they be closed and dead?

Yes, if cooked through they should open. If not they could be bad. I looked this up though I aleady knew it.

Yes. They can be closed or open and dead. They must be closed to be alive if they have been harvested.
