  1. 1941?

  2. 1912

  3. In short:  1461, 1912, 1945 and 1992

Albania was part of the Ottoman Empire, it fought for independence under it's greatest hero - Skanderberg.  Despite his successes, Albania was soon subdued and re-absorbed into the Ottoman Empire.

Albania remained a part of the Ottoman Empire until 1912 when a republic was declared, only to become a monarchy under Ahmet Zogu (born Ahmet Zogolli) - known as King Zog I (AKA Skanderberg III).

Albania was not a stable country and blood-feud and violence were common - Zog even fought a gun battle on the steps of the Paris Opera house.

During WWII Albania fell to Italian troops and partizans led by the Communist Enver Hoxha and they liberated the country in 1945 (interestingly occupied Albania refused to hand over her Jewish population to the Germans, and her Jewish population actually increased during this period)

Enver Hoxha led Albania into self-imposed isolation - Albania only re-emerged into the World in 1992 after the people demonstrated against the election results.

  4. Independent from WHAT?
