When did we depart from the independent free thinking "individuals" we once imagined ourselves to be?

When did we surrender to being group think robots that can't seem to formulate an opinion that is "our own" regardless of the opinions of others?

Why are we inundated with divisive ideologues that wash our minds clean of thoughts that aren't subscribed by them.

Why like lambs do we stand statically awaiting our doom.

Why???????????????????????????????????...

  1. It started the Pres. Johnsons :Great Welfare Society" and grew until Pres. Reagan put and end to it.

  2. With the seeding of socialism's  PC culture .

  3. Apathy, entitlement and dependence is what makes it easy for our ruling forces to control us. If they can get the mainstream population to be on a fixed income provided by the government then they acquire very little and want even less. If they can make people think that they need to conform or they will be questioned and harassed then they can turn people into numbers who provide goods and services for the elite and are too afraid to want anything more. By systematically stripping us of our ability and rights to think for ourselves they keep us from revolting and demanding more.

  4. we haven't struggled.

  5. Wow, great question! Although I think the answer is that there have always been a large segment of the populous who are just as you describe, we just notice it more now because it blasted at us everywhere in the media, public schools, advertisements, government etc. I agree with several other answers here as well.

P.S. Have you seen the movie "Idiocracy"? I think you might like it! :)

  6. it's called "positive thinking". anything that says "positive thinking doesn't work" is negative and to be ingored. "positive thinking" says "you can have / do / be anything, and you are worth it, and dont' listen to anyone who says you can't or shouldn't".

i think it started in the 70's as a fringe new age movement but now even Oprah is pushing it with THe Secret.

in order to be an individual, you need to have your own thoughts, not sensor them as positive or negative. no, you don't *deserve* the best and to throw away the rest. because doing so is wrong.

but don't worry, the economy will catch up to America soon enough. i knew in the 90's that there was only so much earth on Earth, and that 90% of it was being farmed at like 80% capacity. so we will all learn to share and suffer -- like we did in the great depression.
