  1. Mulatto?  What is this, 1898?!

It was fought on the grassroots level as well as on the way up to the Supreme Court.

  2. It began with the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments (about 1865).

But states ignored the intent of these amendments and found ways to keep blacks legally from being able to excersize their rights.

This began to change in 1954 when the supreme court found forced segregation of schools (the doctrine of separate but equal) illegal.   The reasoning, based on the evidence, was that separate was inherently unequal.

What followed was the civil and voting rights legislation of the 1960's, and the 24th amendment which eliminated poll taxes.

So from a legal point of view, 1865, 1954 and 1964 were the key years for Civil Rights.

  3. Around the 1960's, but they still don't have it as well as the Caucasians.
