  1. It was in 1980. A group of almost 11,000 people entered in the embassy of Peru, after the Cuban government withdrew the guards, and then fidel had to do something with so many people. It was a scandal, known in the whole world because it happened in an embassy.

Fidel had then the brilliant idea of sending common criminals from the prisons and mental patients from the psychiatric hospitals in the coming ships to demoralize the exiles and present the idea that those who wanted to leave were only the scum and garbage of the Cuban society

In the first days even doctors began to escape, but when the MIN INT realize that, they began to filter very carefully who was escaping

Nothing really new. One of the reason for fidel to stay for so long in power is that, whenever the political situation within Cuba gets very dangerous, he opens the valve and lets people go

  2. J.M. is correct. El Muriel was from  April 15 and October 31, 1980. (October is when the agreement between the 2 governments ended).

  3. I believe you're talking about 'El Mariel'. I believe it was 1980. I think this will help you..

  4. That was in the exodus of Mariel, 1980. The political environment was getting very difficult and fidel opened the gates to let so many people leave.

That is one of the reasons that have allowed fidel to be there for 50 years. The USA receives us and fidel gets some relief.

It would had been better to apply force when the revolution began, but Kennedy did not do it
