  1. Damon Hill became a professional racing driver in 1983 (at the age of 23) and won the clubman's championship (350 cc). However, it was not until 1984 that he made his single-seater debut. This was after he had attended the well known French Winfield Racing School and taken a race car course. Hill slowly started working his way up the ladder starting with Formula ford and then Formula Three and finally progressing to Formula 3000 ( 1989). Although led five races (1990) and took three pole positions (1991), he did not win a single race throughout his Formula 3000 career. In 1992, he started his He started his started Formula One career. He first raced for Braham, a team that was very obviously uncompetitive and the next year switched teams and raced for Williams and won the 1993 Hungarian Grand Prix, the first of 22 victories.
