When did Marlin make the Model 49 .22 semi-auto rifle?

My dad has one of these rifles that was his step dads. We can find next to zero info online about it. It's made by Marlin of course, on the barrel is Model 49 DL Micro Groove Barrel. Its' a .22 cal semi-automatic with a tube feed. We're trying to find out how old it is and some more info on that model but we aren't having much luck. If someone could direct us to a site that has some info that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Guest9171 is way off. The model 49was only offered in 1968 thru 1970 then replaced by the 49DL from 1971 to 1978. The two letters in the S/N will give you the year made.
