  1. Al-Khawarizmi was the Muslim scholar who’s considered the father of Algebra. He was born around the year 780 CE & died in 850 CE. His book Algebra was the first book on the systematic solution of linear and quadratic equations.

  2. I don't know but I am glad they came up with numbers

Have you ever tried to do long division with roman numerals????????

  3. Did they ? ?

  4. The origins of algebra can be traced to the ancient Babylonians. We know it as "algebra" because it more or less re-entered europe through an arabic book written around 820. Or so says wikipedia.

  5. Algebra is very old. About 4000 years ago the Babylonians made the beginnings and then later on many other civilisations progressed it. Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Indians furthur progressed. Though the contributions of the Arabs is great, they did not truly Make or Invent it.

Arabs translated all the previously existing texts especially Greek ones, into Arabic and began the systematic study of Algebra. This occured after Islam had arrived and the Muslim empire spread considerably in Asia.

Arab mathematician Al-Khwarizmi is often considered as the "father of algebra", much of whose works on reduction was included in the book, Al-Kitab al-Jabr wa-l-Muqabala (meaning "The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing") and added to many methods we have in algebra now.

From about 800AD to 1200 AD Arabs laid the strong foundation of mordern mathematics and also spread it to different parts including Europe (where they carried Numeral Zero from India). Later the European mathematicians took over from them after the Rennaisance started.
