  1. NASCAR itself was founded in 1947, although stock car racing has been around nearly as long as cars have.

  2. 1948.

  3. 1948

  4. 1948, that's when NASCAR began

  5. I think it was after WWII.  I could be wrong but I believe 1947.

  6. The organization of NASCAR started around 1948 but there was racing years before (in the 1920's and 1930's) NASCAR was formed . NASCAR was formed  to "protect drivers" from promoters that were ripping drivers off of reward money at the end of the races I believe.

    Quote:

"Drivers were frequently victimized by unscrupulous promoters who would leave events with all the money before drivers were paid".

  7. There were many stock car races before WWII, but Big Bill France organized NASCAR in December of 1947, and the first sanctioned race was held on February 15, 1948.

  8. Good question, you have already gotten the answers above. To me even though it wasn't officially "NASCAR" stockcar racing began when a bunch of moon-shiners in Wilkes County NC (usually led by Junior Johnson) would get in an open field with their souped up "jalopies" to see who had the fastest car. The revenuers never could catch them.

  9. 1947. It wasn't at Daytona either.
