And by whom?

I remember well that he was not overwhelmingly popular during his tenure, and in my view, rightly so.

  1. Reagan was popular with the Jesus crowd and the war profiteers. Everyone else couldn't stand him.

  2. The sad part about this is that the Republican'ts call Obama a celebrity when that's what they believe in electing. "Saint" Reagan got elected because the Right loved Bonzo the chimp. They thought he was running, but they got Reagan instead. He ended up being the worst president that the middle class had ever seen. Trickle down economics my @$$! Stop digging up his corpse and get over it. Too bad they're trying to elect another Alzheimer's patient for president. Or is it PTSD?

  3. He was popular, but not made a saint.

  4. yeah, I'm too young to remember, but whenever the other engineers and biologists I work with any I get into a political discussion, it always turns into a blame Reagan festival (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

  5. I am old enough to remember, and I remember a cartoon in the Irish times just after he got elected. It showed 3 guys in suits standing behind Reagan sitting in a director's chair, and another one handing him a bunch of papers. "You got the gig. Now learn your lines."

And that's what he did - he faithfully delivered his masters' lines.

Reagan was an apology of a president. He could wear a suit well, that's all the positive comment I can come up with.

I think the recent hagiolatry is just a communal delusion of the US right. Maybe they think they must have had one decent president out of their ranks in the last 50 years, therefore Reagan must have been it.

  6. Reagan was only one of 2 presidents that realized that if you don't stand up to the soviet union, they will push.

    JFK

    Ronald Reagan.

both knew the score and both played it out like they were playing chess.

  7. For the same reason that "Betty Crocker" was created to symbolize a major food company. It sells the goods.

Now they are trying to create Obama, the ruling elite's "dough boy*."

h**l, how many bands and personalities were promoted for some people to make money? How hard do they promote cruddy movies and make money? Politics is the same, but more complex.

  8. Actually, he was quite popular during his administration.  You must be thinking of someone else.
