I heard that they came in the early days of the country and I was suspecting some of my ancestry to be Roma,

this is why

One of my ancestors was named Eli H Vincent and his daughter was Bashaba Belle Vincent. I also have another ancestor named Asineth, how can I find what they were?

  1. they are making their way throughout europe too...

  2. According to Wikipedia, the first Roma arrived in North America in the early 19th century; then in the middle of that century larger numbers began arriving, mostly from Eastern Europe.  However, according to the same article, they have been in England and Scotland since as early as the 16th century (even recorded as early as 1492 in Scotland), and the fact that your ancestor had an English-seeming name might indicate that he came from Great Britain, in which case he or his family could have comehere earlier and not been identified as Roma.

  3. Many gypsys came with the spanish explorers.
