  1. never abandoned caves. lived in huts when materials for hut making were plentiful.

  2. August 12, 9,000 B.C.!

  3. Nearing the end of stone age, by the time tools were invented, fire was discovered, wepons were invented, social awareness was developed, one more thing, a family structure came in practice, cannibalism ended, farming started. and lots of things happened, one of them was the tenament dwelling, or the huts, which were not necessarly made from tree wood, but even the natural slates, stones were used. 4. You see evidence for simple structures in Europe right back to 30,000 years ago.

It's thought early paleolithic Europeans lived a lot like plains Indians in America, with hide huts they could dismantle and rebuild at each new site.

But, Homo erectus seemed to build shelters too. The oldest construction known so far is this one...

    March 2, 2000 - BBC

Previous oldest hut was found in France

Japanese archaeologists have uncovered the remains of what is believed to be the world's oldest artificial structure, on a hillside at Chichibu, north of Tokyo.

The shelter would have been built by an ancient ancestor of humans, Homo erectus, who is known to have used stone tools. The site has been dated to half a million years ago, according to a report in New Scientist.

It consists of what appear to be 10 post holes, forming two irregular pentagons which may be the remains of two huts. Thirty stone tools were also found scattered around the site.

    Important discovery

"It does sound important," says Chris Stringer, head of the human origins group at London's Natural History Museum. "If this is correctly dated and correctly interpreted, it is the first good evidence from 500,000 years ago of a hut structure made by these people."

Before the discovery, the oldest remains of a structure were those at Terra Amata in France, from around 200,000 to 400,000 years ago

  5. Where have you been? Man still lives in caves and huts.

    Jaysus, don't you travel?

  6. Many people lived in caves and mountains fastnesses during the Ice Age. Once the ice receded they set forward to new destinations. They probably had temporary dwellings similar to a yurtz or teepee which they could remove as they proceded on their journey.

There are occasionally older dwellings found, but the first time people started living in houses enmasse was during the neolithic revolution-the dawn of agriculture. Near to me a village of 5000 yr old houses has been found-they were well built andrectangular with wooden shelving.

  7. Only Europeans lived in caves, stupid.
